Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid Rental
MPG Car rental now offers the plug-in version of the Prius rental car customers have come to love.
A Plug-In From Toyota
Toyota's long-in-development Plug-In Prius debuted in late 2011 and transformed the Prius brand back into the beacon of green technology it was meant to be. With the iconic look of a Prius, the plug-in version is equipped with a pair of top-of-the-line batteries attached to its 80hp electric motor. The more familiar Prius battery remains under the hood for driving in hybrid mode.
Driving a Plug-In Hybrid
The sophisticated plug-in aspect makes it possible to hold a charge when you turn the car on and make a trip of eleven miles or fewer without burning a drop of gas. Not to worry, though. If your trip runs longer, or you need to get up to freeway speed in a hurry, the 98hp internal combustion engine kicks in, and you can expect the familiar Prius gas-electric interaction to keep your mileage down to 50mpg. The EPA also gives the Plug-In Prius a special 95 MPGe rating for plug in+gas driving mode.
Getting a rental car Prius means you'll have to familiarize yourself with the charging port on the opposite side from the gas tank. You'll also want to keep a light touch if you want the car to stay in electric mode. Other than that, it has the look and profile of any other third generation Prius.
Your Rental Plug-In Prius
Renting a Plug-In Prius is a great way to check out Southern California. As a California company, we're proud of the effect we've had as a haven for developing products like this. We may not have seen a Prius on our roads until 2004, but it was a team of California designers who originated the look of the Prius for Toyota nearly a decade earlier. If you're a California visitor, or a resident looking for a taste of latest in Californian zeitgeist, renting a Prius is one of the best ways to get in the right spirit.
